Bunkerhill Health and UTMB Health Partner to Bring AI-Powered Clinical Reasoning into Practice

June 17, 2025 Bunkerhill Health today announced an expanded partnership with UTMB Health to deploy Carebricks, Bunkerhill’s clinical reasoning platform that continuously monitors patients, identifies care opportunities, and initiates follow-up across a wide range of clinical areas. Building on several months of success using Bunkerhill’s coronary artery calcium (CAC) detection algorithm, UTMB will now begin implementing Carebricks more broadly to support intelligent workflows across the health system.

Carebricks functions like a medical fellow who is always on. It reviews patient data, identifies those who may benefit from follow-up, clinical interventions, or emerging therapies, and handles key tasks such as chart review, literature research, and outreach to both patients and care teams. At UTMB, Bunkerhill is working closely with clinical leaders to develop use-case-specific workflows that extend the capacity of care teams and enhance delivery across departments.

“We’re building a system where every patient benefits from best practices, not just those fortunate enough to have the right detail noticed at the right moment,” said Dr. Peter McCaffrey, Chief AI Officer at UTMB Health. “Carebricks enables us to apply clinical reasoning at scale. It helps uncover missed opportunities and moves care forward in ways that support, rather than replace, our teams.”

Unlike fixed point solutions, Carebricks is a configurable platform that adapts to the unique needs of each health system. It can be used to identify patients who may benefit from earlier intervention, reduce diagnostic and treatment delays, and help automate care pathways in a way that supports clinical goals across service lines. At UTMB, the partnership is focused on scaling these types of intelligent workflows throughout the continuum of care.

UTMB joins a growing number of health systems partnering with Bunkerhill to bring clinical reasoning AI into everyday practice. By using Carebricks to support decision-making, streamline coordination, and enhance follow-up, these organizations are working to ensure that every patient receives timely and appropriate care.

“This expansion at UTMB reflects the full potential of the Carebricks platform,” said Nishith Khandwala, Co-Founder and CEO of Bunkerhill Health. “It’s not just about detection. It’s about identifying the right patients, taking the right steps, and doing so across the entire health system. We’re proud to be building that future alongside UTMB.”
